Navarre is built on sand between the sound and the pine woods.
Navarre is an unincorporated community in southern Santa Rosa County, stretched along U.S. 98 on the north shore of Santa Rosa Sound, with Navarre Beach across the bridge on Santa Rosa Island. Homes near the sound sit under sand live oaks, laurel oaks, and slash pines on deep sandy lots. North of 98, Holley by the Sea, the East Bay area, and the newer subdivisions toward Holley were cut out of pine land, and many of those houses have tall, thin pines left standing between them.
Navarre has been on the front line of Gulf storms. Hurricane Opal in October 1995 destroyed the road along Santa Rosa Island between Pensacola Beach and Navarre, and Hurricane Dennis made landfall on Santa Rosa Island near Navarre Beach in July 2005. When Hurricane Isaias came ashore near Destin on October 9, 2026, Navarre Beach homes mostly escaped structural damage, though state wildlife officers had to help clear fallen trees to reopen the island neighborhood, and the hardest wind damage fell just to the west around Gulf Breeze.
Sand is the reason trees fail here. It drains fast in dry weather, but in a tropical system it saturates, and shallow root plates let go. A pine that rode out the wind for hours can tip in the last bands of rain. The National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola office covers Navarre, and tornadoes in tropical rain bands bring trees down too.
Field insight:
Most Navarre calls are about pines. A tall slash or loblolly pine between two houses in a subdivision north of 98 snaps or tips in the wind and lands across a roof, a pool cage, or a fence, often with another damaged pine still standing beside it. Near the sound, it's more often a leaning sand live oak or a laurel oak limb over the house. We assess everything nearby before anyone works underneath.

Common Tree Emergencies We Handle in Navarre
Facing one of these right now? Go straight to the situation — we respond 24/7:
Our Navarre Emergency Response Process
Clear steps. Fast action. Zero guesswork. Here's how we get your Navarre property safe again.
How We Handle Your Tree Emergency
Our streamlined process ensures quick response and efficient resolution of your tree emergency
Step :Emergency Call
Call (866) 320-7003 any hour. A live person takes your Navarre address, what the tree hit, whether lines or flooding are involved, and whether U.S. 98 and the beach bridge are open.
Step :Dispatch
We don't climb or run cranes in tropical-storm-force winds. Crews move once winds drop to safe levels, and trees on occupied homes and blocked exits come first.
Step :Safety Assessment
A certified arborist checks the break, root-plate lift in wet sand, damaged pines still standing nearby, and any line contact before work starts.
Step :Controlled Removal
Snapped pines and heavy oak limbs come off the house in rigged sections, lowered under control instead of cut where they lie.
Step :Property Protection
Mats, spotters, and controlled lowering protect roofs, pool cages, fences, septic areas, docks, and dune landscaping on Navarre Beach.
Step :Complete Cleanup
We chip, buck, and haul away debris, or cut and stage it at the curb for county storm-debris collection if you prefer.
Step :Insurance Documentation
We photograph and measure the damage before and during removal and send the file to you and your adjuster, which helps when a hurricane deductible applies.
Common Tree Challenges in Navarre
Every species fails its own way under load. Knowing those patterns lets us clear the hazard without starting a new one.
Slash & Longleaf Pine
The most common trees over Navarre homes; tall pines snap mid-trunk in high wind, and storm-stressed pines attract bark beetles and can die standing
Loblolly Pine
Common in subdivisions north of U.S. 98; shallow-rooted on wet sites and prone to uprooting in saturated sand
Sand Live Oak
Common near the sound; wind- and salt-tolerant, but leaning, multi-stem trees can split or tip when the sand is soaked
Laurel Oak
Short-lived and often decayed inside; one of the most failure-prone trees in a Gulf Coast hurricane
Sand Pine
Found on the sandy ridges; shallow-rooted and among the least wind-resistant pines in the region
Navarre Tree Regulations
Navarre is unincorporated, so Santa Rosa County's land development code applies, mainly on commercial and development sites. Navarre Beach is leased land administered by the county with its own approvals, and work seaward of the state's Coastal Construction Control Line on the beach can need a permit from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Dune vegetation is protected.
On single-family residential lots, Florida Statute 163.045 says a local government can't require a permit, fee, or replanting to remove a tree if the owner has documentation from an ISA Certified Arborist or Florida licensed landscape architect, based on a formal tree risk assessment, that the tree poses an unacceptable risk to people or property. That documentation has to exist before the work, and the law doesn't cover commercial property. We'll tell you which rules apply before we cut.

Frequently Asked Questions: Navarre Tree Emergencies
Are you working in Navarre after Hurricane Isaias?
Yes. Isaias made landfall near Destin on October 9, 2026, and brought down trees across Santa Rosa County, including in Navarre and on Navarre Beach. We triage trees on occupied homes and blocked exits first, then trees on cars and outbuildings, then yard cleanup. Call (866) 320-7003 any hour.
Who is my power company in Navarre?
Most of Navarre is served by FPL, which absorbed Gulf Power. Choctawhatchee Electric Cooperative (CHELCO) also serves parts of southern Santa Rosa County. If a tree is on a line, call whichever utility sends your bill, stay well back, and treat the line as live. We remove the tree once the utility has made it safe.
A damaged pine is still standing next to my house. Is it safe?
Not necessarily. Pines that cracked or twisted in a storm can fail hours or days later, and hurricane-stressed pines often attract bark beetles and die within months. If a pine has a visible crack, a fresh lean, or lifted soil at its base, keep people out from under it and have it assessed.
Do I need a permit to remove a storm-damaged tree in Navarre?
On a single-family residential lot, Florida law says the county can't require a permit if an ISA Certified Arborist or licensed landscape architect documents that the tree poses an unacceptable risk. Commercial properties, Navarre Beach leaseholds, and work on the dunes have their own rules. A tree that has already fallen on your house is an emergency, and we'll help with any paperwork afterward.
Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal in Navarre?
Coverage depends on your policy. Many policies cover removal when a tree damages an insured structure, and treat a tree that falls in the yard without hitting anything differently. Most Florida policies also carry a separate hurricane deductible that applies to hurricane losses. Check with your carrier. We document the scene with photos, measurements, and arborist notes, and we never ask you to sign over your insurance benefits.
How does storm-debris pickup work in Navarre?
After a declared storm, Santa Rosa County usually runs curbside debris collection with rules about separating vegetation from construction debris and keeping piles off hydrants, meters, and drains. Follow current county guidance. We can haul everything away, or cut and stage it at the curb if you want to use the free pickup.
