Around Mobile Bay, hurricane season decides the year.

Southwest Alabama has taken some of the hardest hurricane hits on the Gulf Coast: Frederic in 1979, Ivan in 2004, Katrina in 2005, and Sally and Zeta in 2020. In October 2026, Hurricane Isaias came ashore near Destin and moved north through the state, leaving more than 400,000 Alabama Power customers without power at its peak and trees down from Mobile to Brewton. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, but tropical storms, squall lines, and tornadoes bring trees down too.

The region's trees raise the stakes. Mobile and the Eastern Shore towns grew up under live oaks, laurel oaks, and water oaks, and the laurel and water oaks are short-lived, often decayed inside, and among the trees most likely to fail in a hurricane. Tall loblolly, slash, and longleaf pines cover much of Baldwin County and the country around Brewton, and they snap or uproot when the ground is soaked.

We serve Mobile and Baldwin counties, from Mobile, Spanish Fort, Daphne, and Fairhope down to Foley, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach, and north to Brewton in Escambia County, Alabama.

Field insight:

After a Gulf storm, the damage is usually rain plus wind. Saturated soil lets oaks and pines tip over at wind speeds they'd survive in dry weather, and pines that cracked but stayed standing can fail days later. We assess the standing trees around a job before anyone works under them, and we rig heavy limbs down instead of cutting them where they lie.

Our Alabama Emergency Response Process

Clear steps. Fast action. Zero guesswork.

Our Process

How We Handle Your Tree Emergency

Our streamlined process ensures quick response and efficient resolution of your tree emergency

Step :Emergency Call

Call (866) 320-7003 any hour. A live person takes your address, what the tree hit, whether lines or flooding are involved, and which roads in are open.

Step :Dispatch

We don't climb or run cranes in tropical-storm-force winds. Crews move once winds drop to safe levels, and trees on occupied homes and blocked exits come first.

Step :Safety Assessment

A certified arborist checks the break, root-plate lift in wet ground, damaged trees still standing nearby, and any line contact before work starts.

Step :Controlled Removal

Trees come off houses, cars, and outbuildings in rigged sections, lowered under control instead of cut where they lie.

Step :Property Protection

Mats, spotters, and controlled lowering protect roofs, fences, septic areas, driveways, and lawns, including soft ground after flooding.

Step :Complete Cleanup

We chip, buck, and haul away debris, or cut and stage it at the curb for city or county storm-debris collection if you prefer.

Step :Insurance Documentation

We photograph and measure the damage before and during removal and send the file to you and your adjuster, which helps when a hurricane or named-storm deductible applies.

Common Tree Challenges in Alabama

Each species fails differently under stress. Knowing the patterns lets us remove hazards without creating new ones.

Laurel Oak

Short-lived and often decayed inside by middle age; one of the most failure-prone trees in a Gulf Coast hurricane

Water Oak

Weak wood and internal decay; sheds big limbs and uproots in saturated soil

Southern Live Oak

Among the most wind-resistant trees on the coast, but old trees carry long, heavy limbs over houses

Longleaf, Slash & Loblolly Pine

Tall pines snap or uproot in high wind; storm-stressed pines attract bark beetles and can die standing in the months after

Pecan

Old yard pecans are brittle and rank poorly for wind resistance; large limbs fail in tropical storms

Alabama Tree Regulations

Tree rules in Alabama are set locally, by each city, and they vary a lot. Mobile has a Tree Commission that permits work on any tree in the public right-of-way and protects large Heritage Trees in its historic districts. Fairhope lets residents remove trees on their own single-family lots but requires approval for right-of-way trees. Other towns focus on development sites and commercial property. Trees in the public right-of-way are the local government's responsibility.

Unlike Florida, Alabama has no statewide law that lets an arborist's risk assessment override local tree rules on residential lots, so the local ordinance is what governs. Work on the beaches and dunes at Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, and Fort Morgan has its own city and state coastal rules. We'll tell you which rules apply before we cut.

Frequently Asked Questions: Alabama Tree Emergencies

Which parts of Alabama do you serve?

We serve Southwest Alabama around Mobile Bay: Mobile and Mobile County, all of Baldwin County, including Spanish Fort, Daphne, Fairhope, Point Clear, Foley, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach, and Brewton and East Brewton in Escambia County, Alabama. Call (866) 320-7003 any hour.

Do I need a permit to remove a storm-damaged tree in Alabama?

It depends on your city. There's no statewide permit rule; each city sets its own. In Mobile, any right-of-way tree needs a Tree Commission permit, and large Heritage Trees in historic districts are protected. Fairhope lets residents remove trees on their own single-family lots. A tree that has already fallen on your house is an emergency, and we'll help with any paperwork afterward.

Will insurance cover emergency tree removal in Alabama?

Coverage depends on your policy. Many policies cover removal when a tree damages an insured structure, and treat a tree that falls in the yard without hitting anything differently. Many coastal Alabama policies also carry a separate hurricane or named-storm deductible, often a percentage of dwelling coverage. Check with your carrier. We document the scene with photos, measurements, and arborist notes to support your claim.

Who do I call if a tree is on a power line?

Treat every downed line as live. Stay well back, keep kids and pets away, and don't touch cars, fences, or standing water near the wires. Call the utility that sends your bill: Alabama Power in Mobile and Brewton, Baldwin EMC across much of Baldwin County, Riviera Utilities in Daphne, Spanish Fort, and Foley, Fairhope's city electric system in Fairhope, or Southern Pine Electric Cooperative in rural Escambia County. Once the line is safe, we remove the tree.

When can you get to my property after a hurricane?

Crews can't safely climb or run cranes until the winds drop, so no one should be cutting during the storm. After that, we triage: trees on occupied homes, trapped people, and blocked exits come first, then trees on cars and outbuildings, then yard cleanup. We'll tell you honestly where you are in line.
