Spanish Fort is built on wooded bluffs above the delta.

Spanish Fort sits at the head of Mobile Bay, on high ground above the Blakeley River where the Mobile-Tensaw Delta opens into the bay. The city was only incorporated in 1993 and has grown fast since, and most of its neighborhoods were cut into wooded hills, so tall pines, oaks, sweetgums, and magnolias were left standing close to new houses. Lots run up and down slopes and along ravines, and many back yards end at a tree line.

That high, wooded ground takes the wind. Hurricane Ivan made landfall near Gulf Shores in September 2004, and Hurricane Sally came ashore at Gulf Shores in September 2020, bringing down trees across the Eastern Shore. In October 2026, Hurricane Isaias moved north through Alabama and left downed trees and lines across Baldwin County, along with tens of thousands of customers without power.

The steep ground is what makes storm work here different. A tree on a slope has a weaker root plate on the downhill side, and when the soil is saturated it tips toward the low ground, often onto a roof or a deck. The National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola office covers Spanish Fort, and squall lines and tropical rain bands bring trees down outside hurricane season too.

Field insight:

A typical Spanish Fort call is a tall pine or an oak that leaned out of a wooded slope and came down across a roof, a deck, or a driveway, often with more storm-damaged trees still standing behind it. Many lots here are steep, so we look at access before anything else and lower trees in rigged sections rather than dropping them toward the house. We check the trees left standing before anyone works under them.

Our Spanish Fort Emergency Response Process

Clear steps. Fast action. Zero guesswork. Here's how we get your Spanish Fort property safe again.

Our Process

How We Handle Your Tree Emergency

Our streamlined process ensures quick response and efficient resolution of your tree emergency

Step :Emergency Call

Call (866) 320-7003 any hour. A live person takes your Spanish Fort address, what the tree hit, whether anyone is trapped or a line is down, and how to reach the property.

Step :Dispatch

We don't climb or run cranes in tropical-storm-force winds. Crews move once winds drop to safe working levels, and trees on occupied homes and blocked exits come first.

Step :Safety Assessment

A certified arborist checks the break, root-plate lift on wet slopes, damaged trees still standing nearby, line contact, and how equipment can reach the tree.

Step :Controlled Removal

Trees come off roofs and decks in rigged sections, lowered under control instead of cut where they lie, so the house doesn't take a second hit.

Step :Property Protection

Mats, spotters, and controlled lowering protect roofs, decks, retaining walls, fences, and lawns, including soft ground on slopes after heavy rain.

Step :Complete Cleanup

We chip, buck, and haul away debris, or cut it to size and stage it at the curb for city storm-debris collection when that's what you prefer.

Step :Insurance Documentation

We photograph and measure the damage before and during removal and send the file to you and your adjuster, which helps when a hurricane or named-storm deductible applies.

Common Tree Challenges in Spanish Fort

Every species fails its own way under load. Knowing those patterns lets us clear the hazard without starting a new one.

Loblolly & Slash Pine

Left standing in many Spanish Fort subdivisions; tall pines snap or uproot in high wind, and damaged pines can die standing in the months after

Longleaf Pine

More wind-firm than other pines, but tall trees on slopes still snap or tip in saturated ground

Laurel & Water Oak

Short-lived with weak wood and internal decay; among the trees most likely to break or uproot in a hurricane

Sweetgum

Common on wooded slopes and ravines; shallow roots and brittle limbs fail in wet ground

Southern Magnolia

Dense evergreen crown catches wind and holds rain; large limbs and whole trees fail in tropical storms

Spanish Fort Tree Regulations

Tree rules in Spanish Fort are set by the city, and whether a removal needs approval depends on the tree and where it stands. Rules matter most for healthy trees tied to development or commercial sites and for trees in the public right-of-way. If a fallen tree is in the street or the right-of-way, report it to the city. Many subdivisions also have HOA rules about tree removal, so check yours before taking down a healthy tree.

Alabama has no statewide law like Florida's that overrides local tree rules for hazard trees, so the city's rules are what govern. Homes north of the city toward Stockton and Bay Minette fall under Baldwin County instead. A tree that has already fallen on your house is an emergency, and we'll confirm which rules apply before any non-emergency cutting.

Frequently Asked Questions: Spanish Fort Tree Emergencies

Who is my power company in Spanish Fort?

Riviera Utilities serves Spanish Fort from its Daphne office. Parts of the surrounding county are served by Baldwin EMC. If a tree is on a line, call whichever utility sends your bill, stay well back, and treat the line as live. We remove the tree once the utility has made it safe.

My lot is steep and wooded. Can you still get the tree off my house?

Yes. Steep lots are normal in Spanish Fort, and they're why we plan access first. Depending on the slope, we rig pieces back up toward the street, bring in a crane from the road when one can set up safely, or lower sections by rope so no equipment has to go down a wet hillside.

Do I need a permit to remove a storm-damaged tree in Spanish Fort?

A tree that has fallen on your house is an emergency, and you shouldn't wait on paperwork to make it safe. Healthy trees on development or commercial sites, trees in the right-of-way, and HOA rules can all come into play for non-emergency work, and we'll check them before we cut.

When can you get to my Spanish Fort property after a hurricane?

Crews can't safely climb or run cranes until the winds drop, so no one should be cutting during the storm itself. After that, we triage: trees on occupied homes, trapped people, and blocked exits come first, then trees on cars and outbuildings, then yard cleanup. Call (866) 320-7003 and we'll tell you honestly where you are in line.

Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal in Spanish Fort?

Coverage depends on your policy. Many policies cover removal when a tree damages an insured structure, and treat a tree that falls in the yard without hitting anything differently. Many coastal Alabama policies also carry a separate hurricane or named-storm deductible. Check with your carrier. We document the scene with photos, measurements, and arborist notes, and we never ask you to sign over your insurance benefits.

Should I worry about the pines still standing after a storm?

It's worth having them looked at. Pines that cracked, twisted, or lifted at the roots can stand for days or weeks and then fail, and storm-stressed pines can attract bark beetles and die standing. We assess the standing trees around every job and tell you which ones are a real risk to the house.
