Daphne grew fast under old trees, and storms find the weak ones.

Daphne is the largest city in Baldwin County, and it's really two places. Olde Towne Daphne and the streets along Main Street and the bay are old and shady, with live oaks, laurel oaks, water oaks, and magnolias over cottages and close lots. East of there, the land rises into rolling hills of newer subdivisions like Lake Forest, cut through by ravines and creeks running down to D'Olive Bay, where tall pines and hardwoods were left standing between the houses.

The city sits just up the bay from the coast and takes the same storms. Hurricane Ivan made landfall near Gulf Shores in September 2004 and caused widespread damage here, and Hurricane Sally came ashore at Gulf Shores in September 2020 and dropped trees across Olde Towne and the rest of the city. In October 2026, Hurricane Isaias left downed trees, dark signals, and power lines down across Baldwin County as it moved north.

Daphne's slopes and ravines matter in a storm. Trees on a creek bank or a cut slope have a weaker root plate on the downhill side, and once the ground is saturated, they tip toward the low ground, which is often where the house sits. The National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola office covers Daphne, and squall lines and tropical rain bands bring trees down outside hurricane season too.

Field insight:

Daphne calls split by neighborhood. In Olde Towne, it's usually a laurel or water oak that failed over a roof on a tight lot, which means rigging limbs down in sections. In Lake Forest and the subdivisions to the east, it's more often a tall pine or a hardwood that leaned out of a ravine onto a roof or a back deck, with steep ground that keeps equipment off. We plan the access before we plan the cuts.

Our Daphne Emergency Response Process

Clear steps. Fast action. Zero guesswork. Here's how we get your Daphne property safe again.

Our Process

How We Handle Your Tree Emergency

Our streamlined process ensures quick response and efficient resolution of your tree emergency

Step :Emergency Call

Call (866) 320-7003 any hour. A live person takes your Daphne address, what the tree hit, whether anyone is trapped or a line is down, and how to reach the property.

Step :Dispatch

We don't climb or run cranes in tropical-storm-force winds. Crews move once winds drop to safe working levels, and trees on occupied homes and blocked exits come first.

Step :Safety Assessment

A certified arborist checks the break, root-plate lift on wet slopes, hung limbs, line contact, and how equipment can reach the tree without tearing up the yard.

Step :Controlled Removal

Trees come off roofs and decks in rigged sections, lowered under control instead of cut where they lie, so the house doesn't take a second hit.

Step :Property Protection

Mats, spotters, and controlled lowering protect roofs, decks, fences, irrigation, and lawns, including soft ground on slopes after heavy rain.

Step :Complete Cleanup

We chip, buck, and haul away debris, or cut it to size and stage it at the curb for city storm-debris collection when that's what you prefer.

Step :Insurance Documentation

We photograph and measure the damage before and during removal and send the file to you and your adjuster, which helps when a hurricane or named-storm deductible applies.

Common Tree Challenges in Daphne

Every species fails its own way under load. Knowing those patterns lets us clear the hazard without starting a new one.

Laurel Oak

Common in Olde Towne and older neighborhoods; short-lived, often decayed inside by middle age, and one of the trees most likely to fail in a hurricane

Water Oak

Weak wood and internal decay; sheds big limbs and uproots in saturated soil along creeks and ravines

Southern Live Oak

Highly wind-resistant, but old trees near the bay carry long, heavy limbs over roofs

Loblolly & Slash Pine

Left standing in many subdivisions; tall pines snap or uproot in high wind, and damaged pines can die standing in the months after

Sweetgum

Common in wooded lots and ravines; shallow roots and brittle limbs fail in saturated ground

Daphne Tree Regulations

Tree rules in Daphne are set by the city, and they come into play mostly with development sites, landscaping plans, and trees in the public right-of-way. If a fallen tree sits in the street or the right-of-way, report it to the city rather than clearing it yourself. If you're planning to remove a healthy tree as part of construction or on a commercial property, check with the city first.

Alabama has no statewide law like Florida's that overrides local tree rules for hazard trees, so the city's rules are what govern. Homes in Malbis, Belforest, and Montrose outside the city limits fall under Baldwin County instead. A tree that has already fallen on your house is an emergency, and we'll confirm which rules apply before any non-emergency cutting.

Frequently Asked Questions: Daphne Tree Emergencies

Who is my power company in Daphne?

Most of Daphne gets electricity from Riviera Utilities, which runs a branch office in the city. Parts of the surrounding county are served by Baldwin EMC. If a tree is on a line, call whichever utility sends your bill, stay well back, and treat the line as live. We remove the tree once the utility has made it safe.

A pine fell out of the ravine behind my house. Can you get to it?

Usually, yes. Steep backyards and ravines are common in Daphne, and they're why we plan access before cutting. We often rig the tree up and over toward the street, or use a crane from the road when one can set up safely, so we don't have to drive equipment down a wet slope.

Do I need a permit to remove a storm-damaged tree in Daphne?

A tree that has fallen on your house is an emergency, and you shouldn't wait on paperwork to make it safe. Trees in the right-of-way, on development sites, or on commercial property can fall under city rules, and we'll check those before any non-emergency removal.

When can you get to my Daphne property after a hurricane?

Crews can't safely climb or run cranes until the winds drop, so no one should be cutting during the storm itself. After that, we triage: trees on occupied homes, trapped people, and blocked exits come first, then trees on cars and outbuildings, then yard cleanup. Call (866) 320-7003 and we'll tell you honestly where you are in line.

Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal in Daphne?

Coverage depends on your policy. Many policies cover removal when a tree damages an insured structure, and treat a tree that falls in the yard without hitting anything differently. Many coastal Alabama policies also carry a separate hurricane or named-storm deductible. Check with your carrier. We document the scene with photos, measurements, and arborist notes, and we never ask you to sign over your insurance benefits.

Can I leave storm debris at the curb in Daphne?

After a declared storm, the city usually runs curbside storm-debris pickup with rules about separating vegetation from construction debris and keeping piles off hydrants, meters, and drains. Follow the city's current guidance. We can haul everything away, or cut and stage it at the curb if you want to use the pickup.
