Moorestown's oldest streets have had the same shade trees for generations.

Moorestown grew up along Main Street as a Quaker farm town, and its central neighborhoods filled in between about 1875 and 1910. The Moorestown Historic District, listed on the state and national registers in 1990, takes in roughly 350 historic buildings along and off East and West Main Street, most of them under big shade trees. Farther out, around Strawbridge Lake and in Lenola and the postwar neighborhoods, the lots are larger and the trees are younger but still well over roof height.

This is flat South Jersey ground, which matters in a storm. There's no ridge to block wind, and soils on the coastal plain hold water after heavy rain. Summer thunderstorms are the most common tree storms here, and the township has had nights where many trees came down at once, closing roads all over town.

Bigger storms have done the same at larger scale. PSE&G's map showed thousands of Moorestown customers out after Sandy in 2012, and severe thunderstorm events have left more than 5,000 township customers in the dark at once.

Field insight:

On Moorestown's older streets, the trees we remove were often planted on purpose a long time ago, in rows, and many are now at the end of their lives. When one fails in a storm, it usually has old decay at the base or in a big union that no one could see from the ground. We check the next tree in the row while we're there, because it's often the same age with the same problem.

Our Moorestown Emergency Response Process

Clear steps. Fast action. Zero guesswork. Here's how we get your Moorestown property safe again.

Our Process

How We Handle Your Tree Emergency

Our streamlined process ensures quick response and efficient resolution of your tree emergency

Step :Emergency Call

Call (866) 320-7003 any hour. A live person takes your Moorestown address, what the tree hit, whether the road is blocked, and whether wires are involved.

Step :Dispatch

We don't climb or run cranes in damaging winds. Crews move once gusts drop to safe levels, and trees on occupied homes and blocked exits come first.

Step :Safety Assessment

A certified arborist checks the break, the lean, hung limbs, wire contact, hidden decay, and where each piece can safely come down.

Step :Controlled Removal

The tree comes off the roof in rigged sections or by crane pick from the street, lowered slowly instead of dropped near the house.

Step :Property Protection

Mats, spotters, and controlled lowering protect slate and shingle roofs, porches, brick walks, fences, and the old plantings on historic lots.

Step :Complete Cleanup

We chip, buck, and haul away the debris and clear the sidewalk and street, or stack the wood where you want it.

Step :Insurance Documentation

We photograph and measure everything before and during removal and send the file to you and your adjuster, including the arborist's notes on why the tree failed.

Common Tree Challenges in Moorestown

Every species fails its own way under load. Knowing those patterns lets us clear the hazard without starting a new one.

Pin Oak

Common on Moorestown's streets and lawns; dense crowns catch wind and dead lower limbs drop

Willow Oak

A favorite South Jersey shade tree; big crowns and heavy limbs over roofs, and uprooting in wet soil

Red Maple

Widely planted in newer neighborhoods; weak wood sheds large limbs once the ground is soaked

Silver Maple

Fast-growing older trees near low ground and Strawbridge Lake; brittle wood and frequent limb failure

Tulip Poplar

Very tall native tree; brittle tops snap out in summer thunderstorms

Moorestown Tree Regulations

Trees along township streets are Moorestown Township's to handle. If a street tree has fallen on your property, report it to the township. If it's on your house and creating an immediate hazard, call us too. A tree already down or an immediate danger is handled differently from a planned removal, and we tell you if the township needs to be involved.

New Jersey requires tree care companies to be licensed through the NJ Board of Tree Experts and to work under a Licensed Tree Expert or Licensed Tree Care Operator. Ask for that number before work starts, especially when unfamiliar crews show up after a storm.

Helpful links: New Jersey Forest Service (NJDEP), the Moorestown Township portal, and the ISA arborist resource NJ Board of Tree Experts — verify a licensed operator.

Frequently Asked Questions: Moorestown Tree Emergencies

A township street tree fell on my house in Moorestown. Who removes it?

Trees in the right-of-way are Moorestown Township's, so report it to the township. If it's on your house and creating an immediate hazard, call us as well. We can work with the township on getting it off the structure safely and document the damage for your insurer.

Can you work on a historic home on Main Street?

Yes. Older roofs, porches, and brick walks don't tolerate a dropped limb, so we take the weight off in small rigged sections or with a crane pick and use ground mats and spotters.

Why do so many old trees fail in Moorestown's thunderstorms?

Many of the oldest street and yard trees are near the end of their lives and carry decay that can't be seen from the ground. Flat terrain means nothing breaks the wind, and soaked coastal-plain soil lets roots slip. Summer storms with sudden strong gusts find those weak points.

Does homeowners insurance cover tree removal in Moorestown?

Coverage depends on your policy. Many policies respond when a tree damages an insured structure like a house, garage, or fence, and treat a tree that falls in the yard without hitting anything differently. Check with your carrier. We document the scene with photos, measurements, and arborist notes to support your claim.

What should I do if a tree is on a power line in Moorestown?

Treat every downed line as live. Stay well back, keep kids and pets away, and don't touch cars or fences the wires are resting on. Report it to PSE&G. Once the utility has made the line safe, our crew can remove the tree.

Do you cover Mount Laurel, Cinnaminson, and nearby Burlington County towns?

Yes. Along with all of Moorestown, we work in Mount Laurel, Cinnaminson, Maple Shade, Delran, Willingboro, Riverton, Palmyra, and Cherry Hill. Call (866) 320-7003 any hour.
